We'll have to keep an eye(groan) on it.
Some drought relief would be nice.
I know a guy with an incredible Tropical Storm/Hurricane site.
I'll ask if I can share |

The latest track has the storm going practically right over our house. YIKES!
There's no way we could "get ready"- for one thing, our big oak tree could use having some limbs trimmed, and that costs money. Ditto for the big gum tree. I don't have the tools to cut back some of the ones I worry about- they almost hang over our house. It would take a powered pole saw and very tall ladder (we have the ladder). Our "outbuildings" need major work- but again, that costs money.
I can move a few things around, and cover over our windows with sheets of metal... might help a little bit. It would keep the small stuff from punching through (and blunt the impact of "big stuff").
We live in a mobile home. I'm not willing to evacuate because of the history of the treatment of people in mobile homes in central Florida. If there's damage, they often don't allow you back to try to recover your stuff (for "safety"- they just bulldoze everything and then tell you to file an insurance claim {and if you don't have insurance- you're told tough luck!}) I SAW THIS HAPPEN UP THE ROAD TO A POOR COUPLE IN A RENTAL MOBILE HOME! They lost EVERYTHING! Not to the storm- to the bulldozing! (They made the mistake of leaving their home- and the county moved in).
After the three storms- quite a few mobile homes WITHOUT ANY DAMAGE in central Florida were bulldozed. A couple of better-off people were able to get something done about it because it hit the news. I've met people who had homes bulldozed and lost everything- and they were never compensated. Yep, no damage from the storm (just no electricity because of power lines damaged).
You MIGHT get an "oops- we're sorry" and a check for a couple of thousand dollars. That's about it.
So, every time a storm threatens- I'm scared. Scared of the storm, but more scared of the "system" and how it treats people who aren't well off.
So, the next few days are going to be nerve-wracking for me. |

How do you know that our hatches don't have button holes? |

Thank you for sharing that website Gornman. Looks like it is going to be a wet couple of days here in Lakeland. If we don't loose power, I will try to stay in touch.
Bob put up our window coverings. Even though this is a mobile home, it is built to post-Andrew hurricane standards. When Charlie and the others came through a few years ago, I actually had to look outside to see that the wind was blowing. The home stayed put. Of course, we lost power but we are prepared for that. |

Sure thing SMB,
I've been tracking these storms for years. I've used many sites
including the very helpful NOAA, but this guy's site offers everything I'm
looking for |

Whoo boy. At least this storm is not like Charlie and the others- but I'd rather the storm come on by than just sit there and spin. It reminds me of the storm years ago that sat just off of Tampa, wobbling towards us and then away. We sat in shelters (I am an Amateur Radio operator and was on hand in case of emergency communications) for a couple of days.
It's starting to rain here- a fine, misty rain that reminds me of other storms when they came. It shouldn't be so bad- I HOPE! |
