Has anyone else , listened to or is interested in the Star Trek audio books? |

I found 'Time For Yesterday' to be very good, the idea of Spocks Son,having passionate emotions and feelings and the willingness to fight.Such a contrast to the controlled Spock.
I have also some of Bills Star Trek audio books, "Preserver" being my favorite. Also amoungst my small collection is one called "Borg", which is the audio book of a Star Trek video game, which seems a quite weird concept. |

I have noticed that most of the sales of audio books that I've seen have been to non-US fans. The Unabridged 9CD Audio book of Bill's new Autobiography has been flying off the shelf to Canada and the UK in much higher ratios (10 to 1) that the US and I remember the ST Memories and Movie Memories Audio book set that we used to carry was always being sold to Canadian fans.
I wonder if it's more of a cultural thing with Canada and the UK? I lived in the UK for nearly 10 years and never really noticed it but it is a phenomenon that I've noticed since I've been running the store. |

Time for Yesterday and its sequel, Yesterday's Son are two of my favorite books. I don't have the audio version though.
I have always thought that if ever the Trek folks wanted to make a movie that was different than all the others; a movie based on those two books would be fantastic. Talk about bringing two completely different worlds together.
Another book that would make a great movie is Spock's World.
I have Bill's audio book for Up Until Now. There is one small rough spot that is hard to hear, but the rest is great.
I also understand the James Doohan did a number of audio books. I honestly think his talent was sometimes underplayed and underused throughout his career. |

I lived in the UK for nearly 10 years and never really noticed it but it is a phenomenon that I've noticed since I've been running the store. | I have noticed there are quite a few Star Trek audio books, on the market, some of which are read by actors who have not even appeared in Star Trek, and the stories are about compleatly different characters than the one we know from the T.v shows. They do in many ways expand the Star trek legacy.I think possibly for many people, sitting down and listening to a "talking book" is much easier that having to sit still and read, many people listen to them in the car, or on a journey, or in other situations where they can put an entire series of books on to an mp3 player, and thats much easier than having to carry a set of books around.Audio books are also epecially usefull for those with visual impairments, who might find certain books difficult to obtain in large print, or braille.
I seem to remember a while back that Bill was asked the question about making audio versions of his recent books, and he replied that if there was sufficeient demand, he would consider it.At least in The U.K and Canada there seems to be a demand |
