How many TV commercials are featuring older rock bands
as background music.
Creedence, Doobies, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, and many more....
I've noticed it for months, but I don't get out a pen and write it
down, which group, which commercial.....maybe I should have.
Idea..
If you come across one, post it here |

I wonder if it could have something to do with the fact that the language used in some of the new performers' music is not fit for the general public.
Then again, the youngsters' music might be good for a soap commercial, especially if they get a mouthful afterwards.
I know. Just call me Ms. Fuddy Duddy! |

Led Zeppelin for Cadillac. The Zep songs were hold-out for the longest time. I don't know what happened. Maybe something with the rights.
The first one I remember, something like over 10 years ago was the Beatles Revolution but I forget the product/service. That song was used in a number of commercials.
Even punk rock is being used. The Ramones, Blitzkreig Bop, and the Buzzcocks, "Everybody's Happy Nowadays" for some retirement fund. All the punks are able to join AARP! HA! |

After so many years the copyrights on songs run out which means anyone can use them without paying for them. So they use old songs to save money. It ticks me off. The song is Viva Las Vegas, not Viva Viagra!
I miss the old days when they wrote brand new jingles for commericals rather then turning classic songs into jingles. |

I agree with you Jami and Johnny. I believe that even Lisa Marie is ticked off about the use of her father's song in that commercial. |

Um, Jami is partially correct...some, it is copyright lapse, but MOST are actually paying royalties to the estates, or controllers, of the rights...
and they use the music so much, because the age group of expendible spending factor has finally reached the time period of that musical era...
I don't particularly like hearing RollingStones "Sympathy for the Devil", when I'm checking out a new car though...makes me think a wreck is coming... |
