Do you think he will survive? Does he deserve to survive?
Discuss!

His situation could almost be a Greek tragedy...
It's legend that Brown and Blair shared a dinner where they agreed that Blair would be PM for a certain number of years and Brown Chancellor of the Exchequer and then Blair would step down and allow Brown the centre stage. Blair spent longer as PM than they had agreed and Brown became very discontented and constantly plotted against Blair, all the while being a pretty efficient Chancellor. Then, finally, Blair steps down and Brown becomes PM, without a General election, which in itself was very controversial. Within a year he is the most hated PM since Chamberlain came back from Munich!
Be very, very careful what you wish for!

To me, he'll always be Charlie Brown. His famous line, "Why can't I have a normal dog like everyone else?" was one for the history books!

I think the more the party "faithfull" publically rally behind Gordon, and say that there is no threat to his leadership, the more they are actually plotting to get rid of him.I think it's just a case of finding who has the credability, to challenge him,and could take his place, that the public will accept, and when that happens Brown might just feel those stabs in the back.

I think we may have another situation, that Margaret Thatcher faced when she found her "friends", could not wait to see the back of her . She tried to hang on,but in the end it was a choice of jump or be pushed.

I voted "yes, i hope so' because I think he will be receptive to following orders from John McCain without question.

I don't know what makes you think that, even if by some mass hysteria, McCain actually manages to get elected. Brown is an independent minded Scotsman, not the poodle Blair was.
Personally, I think he should go and there should be a general election. Brown was a superb backroom guy but is a hopeless leader.

Speaking as a member of The Scottish National Party, I hope he does survive, as it will almost certainly mean the Tories winning the next General Election and Scotland finally gaining independence as not many true Scots could stomach our country being run by a Westminster Conservative government again after the damage and devastation Margaret Thatcher left in her wake, that woman really despised Scotland. Yet Brown invited her to 10 Downing Street for tea and crumpets and wants the Tax Payer to pay for a State Funeral when she dies??? Rolling Eyes

That's part of the problem isn't it, who is there with any credability, that the public trust, that could replace Brown if he does go.?.We are stuck with a two horse race between Labour ( the devil we know) or putting the Tories ( who have gone through more leaders in the last 10 years than most of us have had hot dinners) back in to power.Hoping that those of us of a certain age,can forget what they did to this country during the Thatcher/Major 18 years of Goverment..?.I don't think a party like the Lib Dems ( no matter how much they try to reinvent themselves) are really in the running.

Inasmuch as I have problems with the two party system
here in the states, I much prefer it to any parliamentary
system that can rise and fall overnight. Wink

He will be lucky to make it to the next election let alone win it. I had a lot of time for Blair and Brown is no Blair thats for sure.

Not sure where Morgram get his idea the British Labor Party has any connection with McCain, they are the equivelent of the Democrats. Its one of the reasons Blair copped so much for supporting Bush.

Labor in the UK is a little like the Liberal Nationals here and Republicans in the US in the fact they have been in the job a long time and the wave of change will most likely see them taken out.

Sometimes people should just recognise what they are good at and stick to it !! He was a passable Chancellor of the Exchequer but does appear to be loosing control as PM.

I hate the so called "two party system", I wouldn't vote for either one of them. Perhaps it is time to really give the Libs a chance, they certainly can't make a bigger mess of things than either Labour or the Conservatives have done over the last 25 years. It has been long enough since they ruled Parliament for them to bring some fresh ideas in.

There is also no way MT should get a State funeral !! Who the hell do they think she was, as far as I can tell everyone despised her as an MP, even before she managed to get the Party Leadership role and became PM. If they are thinking she was equal to Winston Churchill (who brought us through WWII and all she happened to do was be in power when the Argentina military junta invaded the Falkland Islands) and therefore deserves the same pom and circumstance on her death, then they are seriously deludded !!

Again, chock it up to mass hysteria that people don't conform to your desires.

What about the "your people" comment? Is that how you view others? This is the second time I've read where O'Bama is "a skinny black kid..." Do you really define people by such ridiculous measures like skin color?? To me, he isn't black, he isn't white, he's a politician who thinks govt. is the answer to our problems. WRONG!
