Post subject: One Case for Legalizing Drugs..

I had a double major in college, one of them was Economics, so yes, I know who Milton Friedman is.
I remember watching a tape of him back in the 70's arguing
the merits of legalizing drugs. It was a very convincing argument.
This is not the same tape, but it's the only one I could find.

The man makes alot of good points.
I'm not for total drug legalization, but..
Our prisons are so full they're forced to turn murderers and rapists
back out on the street.
I'd rather they stop putting dope(marijuana) smokers in jail
and free up space so this doesn't happen.
I grew up with guys who loved pot. I tried it, didn't like it, and I inhaled 
IMO, smoking pot will be legal one day. Pot smokers don't get
hostile, they want a black light, a doobie bros poster , and some
doritos....lol
You can't say the same for meth or crack addicts |

| Maybe you`re right, Gorny. I think the feds ought to volunteer all our prison convicts for mandatory drug testing...........to see if it`s good enough for domestic distribution. LMAO!!! |

You should look into the history of the outlawing of marijuana.
It wasn't done for health or any other "reasonable reason". It was done as a racist attack against Mexicans, and as a way to tighten one rich person's grip on the paper industry.
Hemp (the fiber from the Cannabis plant) is excellent for making paper, some forms of cloth, and for other uses (but not for getting high). William Randolph Hearst invested very heavily in a new paper-making process using wood pulp, and didn't want any competition (I've read that he even bought out the patent for the process). Using hemp to make paper competed with him, so he (along with some racist politicians) got Cannabis banned.
At the time, generally it was only Mexicans who smoked Marijuana, although I've read that it was introduced early among African Americans.
I don't much care for being around people who use "weed"- I've been betrayed too many times by them and find them to be generally dishonorable. I dislike even more the reasons they banned the stuff and think the ban is wrong.
(By the way- there are subspecies of Marijuana that are useless for getting high, while at the same time far better suited for fiber- and those subspecies are prosecuted and hunted with as much vigor as the new "super weed" which has been cultivated for drug potency!) |

I really liked the background music! Tell me that wasn't the coolest! I didn't get to see the whole video, but I'm going to watch some of it again just for the music! His eyeglasses were pretty cool, too.
Why not leagalize it? What are the costs to society? I really don't think cops go after weed anyway. If you're caught doing something else, O.K., they'll bust you.
According to Dr. Dean Edell, booze is much more harmful to your body than marihuana.
What spelling is your favorite? marijuana? marihuana? |
