HONG KONG - British candy maker Cadbury said Monday it is recalling 11 types of Chinese-made chocolates found to contain melamine, as police in northern China raided a network accused of adding the banned chemical to milk.
Cadbury spokesman said it was too early to say how much of the chemical was in the chocolates made at its Beijing plant.

Melamine......
Wasent that the same stuff that was found in dog and cat foods that sickened and or killed thousands of pets last year?
Havent the Chinese learned from the last time that certain additives are deadly and they need more regulations on thier foods?
I for one will see where my food comes from and if it says "Made In China " I'm not eating it...I feel sorry for all those kids over there that were poisoned with the milk

DianaG- yes, it's the same chemical. It's also the same one added to baby formula/milk that sickened so many children over there (caused them to have kidney stones- which are VICIOUS!)
We may have lost one kitty to the chemical, but we'll never know for sure. During that bad period one of our babies died, and she had bloody urine just before she passed. (That and a couple of other symptoms indicated it might have been that). She went rather quick.
We wondered if someone had fed her some "treat"- not realizing the stuff was bad. We didn't have any of the bad brands in our house.
I don't really trust products from China- and knowing a bit about the labor conditions there (in the manufacturing for export business), also have ethical/moral reasons for not buying Chinese products. Sometimes, however, you don't have much choice.
---------
Talking about Chocolate- the brand isn't as important as the color IMO- for me, nice rich DARK chocolate. |

just saw onthe TV on FOXNEWS that some of the melamine tainted candy, the White Bunny brand from China was discovered here in the US in California and 4 stores were selling it in Connetticut (sp?).
I hope that all the candy is destroyed and people havent eaten enough of it to get sick...just what we don't need on top of all the other woes.

New Jersey is now pulling a high energy drink from China that it has on it's shelves called "Blue Cat" yogurt power drink. It too had the mtainted milk in it.
Be careful on what you eat and drink and read the labels!!

First off, I like Cadbury's a lot better then Hersey's. Hersey's has way too much wax in it.
Second of all, the only thing made in China I trust right now is Jackie Chan. |

In American Hersey's there is. That's one reason their chocolate gets that white discoloration on it. True English Cadbury's has a way higher coacoa content and therefore tastes way better. What I wouldn't give for a fresh Wispa Gold right now....
Course what I really loved over there were Kendel's Mint Cakes. Can't find those here. *sighs* |

OH BOY...HERE WE GO...AGAIN
Q) Do they really put wax in their chocolate?
No, Hershey doesn't use paraffin wax to achieve the correct
consistency, unlike many home recipes. Instead, they use cocoa butter
to achieve the nice sheen and texture. According to the following page
from Cornell University, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not
approved the use of paraffin as a food additive:
http://www.nutrition.cornell.edu/nutriq ... affin.html
Milton Hershey, this year, will be joining H. J. Heinz in rolling over in his grave. Hershey Chocolate is moving to MEXICO .
So Hershey executives are closing plants in the US , laying off over a thousand people, and destroying Mr. Hershey's dream, all to cut labor, material costs and AVOID PAYING ANY US TAXES!
The company will save about $170 million a year, all on the backs of the American people. The top executives will still make their mega bucks and the laid off workers will have to find other jobs, some probably at minimum wage due to their age. All this to take their jobs to India , China and Mexico , So WHAT part of the "GREAT" American Chocolate Bar is left?...NOTHING! These countries are no doubt laughing at the Americans, who they don't like anyway. How long are the American people going to sit around and let big corporations do this to us? We must all band together and let our Politicians in Washington know we have had it with NAFTA, CAFTA and "SHAFTA" and we won't take it any longer!
Please, do not buy any Hershey product! If the company wants to take the work to these countries, then let those countries buy the product. We don't need it!
BOYCOTT HERSHEY!! |

I'm afraid that letters won't do any good. The only thing that the rich will understand is a threat to their wealth.
A nice boycott, now that might get their attention.
Of course- they'll probably sell elsewhere in the world (and who knows, with doctored ingredients?) Whoever thought that business would regulate itself was a fool.
SIGH. The lesson from the Depression has long been forgotten. |
